As Executive Vice President of UNAC/UHCP, Peter has continued to make staffing his top priority. He has pursued both short- and long-term solutions to address shortages across every profession—not only at individual hospitals, but across the entire union. He successfully bargained groundbreaking staffing language into the most recent Kaiser Permanente contract and is spearheading a union-wide campaign to ensure healthcare professionals in California and Hawaii have the resources they need to care for patients safely.
What I see for our union’s future is growth. Because we provide something that no other union provides, which is health care professionals taking care of health care professionals.
Peter has led or co-led bargaining for both independent affiliates and Kaiser UNAC/UHCP groups, including SPNN, St. Francis, SCNSC, and the Kaiser National Agreement. He has also championed innovation, such as developing the UNAC/UHCP app that empowers members to report unsafe staffing directly from their phones.
Earlier in his statewide service, Peter was elected UNAC/UHCP Treasurer in 2020, where he modernized and streamlined the union’s financial operations.
Before holding statewide office, Peter served as a UNAC/UHCP staff representative while continuing to work in the ICU—volunteering in Kaiser Woodland Hills’ first COVID-19 units. He has held multiple leadership roles, including affiliate Treasurer, affiliate President, and Vice President of Nursing for NUHHCE.
Raised by a single mother who worked as a nurse, Peter was encouraged—but never pressured—to follow in her footsteps. After initially studying finance, he entered nursing more than 20 years ago, beginning as a medical-surgical nurse before advancing to relief charge nurse in the ICU in 2005. His unique blend of financial expertise, frontline experience, and unwavering commitment to members has defined his leadership ever since.
