Typical Election Timeline

Most local affiliate and chapter elections follow a straightforward process designed to give every member a voice. Here’s a general timeline you can expect. NOTE: Exact dates may vary depending on your affiliate or chapter or the type of election.

Nominations Open
This is your chance to step up or nominate a fellow member to serve in a leadership role. Nomination forms are usually submitted online.

Nominations  Close
Once the deadline passes, we verify eligibility and finalize the list of nominees.

Candidate Bios Deadlines
Candidates are invited to submit a short bio to appear on the Candidate Bio election webpage and/or printed materials at onsite elections as instructed.

Ballot Drop
Paper ballots are mailed to eligible members at their home addresses. You’ll also receive email notices and reminders to watch your mailbox.

Electronic voting begins with an email notice.

Ballot Deadline
Return your completed ballot by the listed deadline—typically by mail, unless otherwise stated.

Results Posted
If there is a clear winner without challenges or runoffs,  election results are shared via email and posted on your affiliate or union’s website once ballots are counted and certified.

Larger, union-wide elections—such as for Executive Officers or Convention Delegates—may follow a slightly different process, with longer timelines and multiple voting locations and times. Always check your election email or contact your affiliate or chapter for details.
