UNAC/UHCP NURSES REACH TENTATIVE AGREEMENT WITH SHARP HEALTHCARE
After seven month campaign, San Diego’s frontline caregivers win solid wages, sick pay protections, and improved patient care
SAN DIEGO, CA – UNAC/UHCP and Sharp HealthCare announced today that a tentative agreement has been reached on the registered nurse bargaining unit contract. The parties worked together to reach an agreement that focuses on retaining and attracting registered nurses to Sharp.
After a seven-month campaign that included a one-day informational picket and a three-day Thanksgiving strike, among other actions, the union won solid raises that will attract and keep nurses at Sharp, solidified sick pay protections so that nurses can safely take care of patients as well as themselves, and defended existing benefits for nurses who retire after years of dedicated service to Sharp.
“This tentative agreement is a big win not just for Sharp registered nurses but for Sharp’s patients and the San Diego community,” said Andrea Muir, RN, a Sharp Resource Nurse in Med-Surg/Telemetry, president of the UNAC/UHCP affiliate at Sharp, and a member of the bargaining team. “We addressed outstanding sick leave, wage, and retirement issues in a manner that benefits both patients and nurses. We would never have gotten this far without the solidarity and hard work of Sharp RNs, who stood strong together and would not give up.”
The UNAC/UHCP, SPNN bargaining team will be sharing additional information with bargaining unit members in the coming days and will schedule a ratification vote for the near future.
