ATTORNEY GENERAL HOLDS HEARING ON HOSPITAL SALE--January 6, 2015
On January 5, nurses from St. Francis Medical Center joined community members at a public hearing held by California Attorney General Kamala Harris regarding the sale of our hospital. St. Francis nurses, including the bargaining team from our recent contract negotiations, attended a pre-hearing rally and testified at the hearing in opposition to the sale of St. Francis Medical Center to Prime Healthcare Services. Speaking out on behalf of safety net hospitals that may serve the two million new Medi-Cal-eligible Californians, a Congressional delegation delivered a letter stating that Prime’s business model of minimizing care to low income patients was completely incompatible with the communities served by the Daughters of Charity hospitals.
