Possible Lawsuit to Remove San Diego Pension Reform from Ballot
San Diego city unions won a crucial victory on February 13 when the California Public Employees Relations Board ruled that a pension initiative that was to be voted on in June in the city of San Diego is an unfair labor practice.
The decision will force a lawsuit to attempt to strike the measure from ballots.
At issue in the ballot measure was the fate of new city employees' retirement. The initiative would have enrolled most new employees in 401(k) plans instead of in pensions. The unfair labor practice in this case was that the city did not bargain the change in benefits.
