Parkview Nurses to Strike
The Parkview Registered Nurses Association (PRNA) has submitted a ten-day notice of intent to strike and picket. The strike will take place from 7:00 am on Thursday, July 3 through 7:00 am on July 6, 2014. Stand up in solidarity to speak out against unfair labor practices that impact patient care.
The biggest day will be Thursday, July 3. There will be a rally at 11 AM and a food truck at 11:30 AM.
Picketers will begin gathering at 7 AM, at Hunt Park across from Parkview Community Hospital, 4015 Jackson Street in Riverside, CA 92503.
We will have plenty of water and snacks at the staging area in Hunt Park. Bring your children, family, neighbors and friends. Wear comfortable, casual clothing—it’s expected to be hot. Wear comfortable shoes.
Striking will continue over three shifts on three days:
1. 7-11 am
2. 11 am-3 pm
3. 3-7 pm
Stay up-to-date: Text Parkview to 411247 to sign up for text alerts.

WHY STRIKE? CAN’T WE SIMPLY CONTINUE TO NEGOTIATE?
Parkview nurses would never make a decision to strike lightly. UNAC/UHCP members haven’t conducted a strike since 1980. However, management gave the Union a “last, best and final” offer that shows a lack of respect for our hard work and dedication to caring for our patients, and has committed unfair labor practices by awarding overtime shifts to outside RNs and created new, unsafe staffing assignments. Our only recourse is to strike. We cannot force management to continue negotiating if they take the position that they are finished and no longer want to talk. By going on strike, we will show that we refuse to accept this unacceptable contract offer and unfair labor practices.
