We rallied with union construction workers from IBEW Local 11 who are calling on Prime to pay wages in line with area standards on their construction projects at facilities like San Dimas Community Hospital, where the rally was held.

Attorney General Kamala Harris has denied her consent to the sale of Victor Valley Community Hospital to Prime Healthcare. This means Prime will be unable to purchase the hospital. At a hearing in Victorville on August 17, we urged the California State Attorney General not to approve the sale of Victor Valley Community Hospital to Prime Healthcare. Nurses, families of patients victimized by Prime, community groups, doctors and other unions all packed Victorville City Hall to oppose Prime.

Garden Grove Registered Nurses voted overwhelmingly Tuesday, June 19 to approve a new contract that includes wage increases retroactive to October, 2010, and several contract improvements including bonuses, differentials and new holidays, while holding the line against proposed takeaways of our reserve sick bank and other benefits.

AAOC Update: Our Union, Our Vision

GGRNA Bargaining Update
Your Bargaining Team last met with Prime Healthcare negotiators in November when negotiations stalled. Prime continues to propose ‘take-aways’ which GGRNA, UNAC/UHCP cannot agree to. As provided for in your contract, a Board of Inquiry or ‘BOI’ has been scheduled for July 19, 21 and 26 with a Mediator/Arbitrator. We will continue to argue our proposals at that time. Top 10 Nurses Deserve a Top 10 Contract!
The Garden Grove Registered Nurses Association (GGRNA) Negotiating team met on October 25 with Prime Healthcare again to negotiate our new contract. We are still being strongly supported by our members, who continue to attend in large numbers.
Although we conducted bargaining using sidebars rather than meeting at the bargaining table this session, we achieved several major gains.

Union in Brief – Sept/Oct’10 Voice
NLRB Dismisses Charges – In a recent ruling, UNAC/UHCP was cleared of any misconduct during the Chino Valley organizing campaign that preceded the Registered Nurses vote to unionize in April. Following the election victory the hospital, owned by Prime Healthcare Services, filed 29 objections with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) alleging UNAC/UHCP election misconduct. On July 7, an Administrative Law Judge from the NLRB overruled all the hospital’s objections, clearing the way for us… Read more
