Chino Valley Medical Center RNs are One Step Closer to Reaching the Bargaining Table
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit heard oral argument on CVMC's appeal of the NLRB's determination that it violated federal law by refusing to bargain with Chino RNs' chosen representative, UNAC/UHCP. A three-judge panel asked questions of the attorneys representing CVMC, the NLRB, and UNAC/UHCP. The Court could issue its written decision by the end of the year. UNAC/UHCP members rallied Monday against the business practices of Prime Healthcare, Inc., the rich, for-profit hospital chain that owns Chino Valley Medical Center and Garden Grove Hospital. We rallied with union construction workers from IBEW Local 11 who are calling on Prime to pay wages in line with area standards on their construction projects at facilities like San Dimas Community Hospital, where the rally was held.

Attorney General Kamala Harris has denied her consent to the sale of Victor Valley Community Hospital to Prime Healthcare. This means Prime will be unable to purchase the hospital. In August, Garden Grove Registered Nurses’ Association President Helen Bouman, RN, and UNAC/UHCP Staff Attorney Lisa Demidovich both testified about Prime Healthcare’s unlawful and damaging treatment of its RNs at Garden Grove and CVMC. Nurses, families of patients victimized by Prime, community groups, doctors and other unions all packed Victorville City Hall to oppose Prime.

NLRB Dismisses Charges – In a recent ruling, UNAC/UHCP was cleared of any misconduct during the Chino Valley organizing campaign that preceded the Registered Nurses vote to unionize in April. Following the election victory the hospital, owned by Prime Healthcare Services, filed 29 objections with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) alleging UNAC/UHCP election misconduct. United Nurses Cleared of Election Misconduct Allegations
Frivolous Objections by Prime Healthcare Services Overruled San Dimas, CA –The United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals (UNAC/UHCP) was cleared of any misconduct during an organizing campaign preceding the Registered Nurses vote to unionize and affiliate with UNAC/UHCP in April 2010. Chino Valley Medical Center filed twenty-nine objections with the National Labor Relations Board, alleging Union election misconduct. Last week an Administrative Law Judge overruled all of the Hospital’s objections, clearing the way for the Union to be certified as the nurses’ representative.
