Union in Brief – Nov/Dec’09 Voice

BVRNA – In its recent hospital customer satisfaction ratings, Consumer Reports ranked Bear Valley Community Hospital the 3rd top hospital in all of LA, Orange, Ventura, San Bernardino and Riverside counties and 9th throughout the state of California. Congratulations to the members of the Bear Valley Registered Nurses Association (BVRNA) for their substantial contributions to this achievement!

FVPA – Roughly 200 Fountain Valley Professional Association members participated in a contract negotiations kickoff meeting in late September. At the meeting, members spoke with their affiliate officers and UNAC/UHCP state officers and department directors concerning issues of interest in preparation for negotiations.

PRNA – The Parkview Registered Nurses Association (PRNA), in partnership with Parkview Community Hospital and Medical Center management, have been awarded a $60,000 grant from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS). Through the Registered Nurse Advisory Committee, the grant will help foster effective labormanagement collaboration through the development of a customer service program to improve the quality of patient care at Parkview.

UNAC/UHCP – Our members are actively participating in community heath fairs, administering eye, glaucoma and blood pressure testing to community members who lack access to healthcare. Recently, we participated in three events hosted by Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (D-CA), Speaker of the Assembly Karen Bass (AD-47) and Assembly Member Felipe Fuentes (AD-39). Thanks to UNAC/ UHCP members Myrna Madriaga, RN (Kaiser Panorama City), Dr. Danny Pollack (Kaiser Panorama City), Marcia Schlesinger, NP (Kaiser Sunset) and Fred Tinamisan, RN (Kaiser South Bay) for getting involved in your communities!
